Timeline

1915 - The Wieland family begin a sheep and cattle grazing operation in Blackall, Western Queensland.
1980 - Bill joins the family business as a partner in the rural enterprise.
1985 - Bill enrols in university as a mature age student as a solution to the poor service and advice being offered to the rural sector by the existing top tier accounting firms.
1995 - Bill graduates from university with a Bachelor of Accounting degree and pursues his new found passion in business.
1996 - "Rural Solutions" launches, specialising in accounting for primary producers, combining Bill's passions and expertise.
1998 - Bill creates the Wealth Formula of E=(A-S)T. Equity equals Assets minus Sensible Debt as a function of Timing.
1999 - The firm is renamed "Accounting East" to expand the business and break into the non-rural business sector.
2000 - Corinne joins the business and will later become Partner and Senior Accountant.
2002 - Ben joins the business and will later become Partner and Senior Wealth Manager.
2010 - Ben launches the wealth management division of the firm.
2014 - The firm is renamed "EGU" which is an acronym for East Group United, bringing together the three business divisions of Principled Wealth Management, Practical Business Advisory, and Proactive Accounting and Taxation. The "East" in East Group United derives its name from the wealth formula of E=(A-S)T created by Bill in 1998.
2015 - EGU celebrates its 20th anniversary and its ongoing commitment to excellence. The Wieland family celebrates 100 years of working in and with the rural sector.
2018 - EGU Financial Services Pty Ltd is granted an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL# 509564) by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC).
2020 - Bill retires from his role of running the day-to-day operations of EGU, handing this role over to Corinne and Ben. Bill continues to provide guidance and assistance to the EGU team.


Founder (Retired)

WILLIAM WIELAND

Bill is the core of the business and brings a wealth of knowledge to EGU and its clients.

Bill is the Founder of EGU and has had a diverse business career, including working as a banker at National Australia Bank (NAB) for a decade, owning and successfully operating sheep and cattle properties in Western Queensland, and establishing the accounting firm Rural Solutions, which evolved into EGU.  Bill's many years of experience across a wide range of businesses provides him with the skills and expertise to develop solutions to a wide range of business problems.

Bill has completed a Bachelor of Accounting degree and is a Registered Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).  He is accredited with various industry associations and is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

“I’m passionate about working with clients and their businesses to grow their income, increase profits and improve cash flows."

Since retiring from the day-to-day operations of EGU, Bill continues to provide guidance and assistance to the EGU team.

Bill’s interests include camping, clay pigeon shooting and fly fishing.

Partner and Senior Accountant

CORINNE KIRK (nee Wieland)

Corinne is the specialist who leads the EGU Accounting and Taxation division.

Partner and Senior Accountant at EGU, Corinne oversees all bookkeeping and the preparation of financial statements and income tax returns.  Her bubbly personality, creativity and sense of humour will brighten any meeting.  Corinne prides herself on developing close working relationships with her clients and delivering an unparalleled and exceptional level of service.

Corinne has 18 years experience in the accounting industry and an invaluable knowledge of the Australian taxation system.  This is clearly demonstrated in every financial statement and tax return she oversees.  She enjoys guiding her clients through the complexities of the ever changing world of tax with real world tax advice.

"I love completing tax returns. I have a real passion for ensuring your tax obligations are met, and you only pay your fair share of tax. It is the most rewarding part of my work."

Corinne’s interests include travelling, cooking, entertaining friends and family, and exercising.

Partner and Senior Wealth Manager

BENJAMIN WIELAND

Ben is a forward-thinking visionary who sees the big picture whilst honouring tradition.

A Partner and Senior Wealth Manager at EGU, Ben is the wealth management expert who gives clients the knowledge and tools they need to achieve their financial goals.  With a Bachelor of Business double major degree in Accounting and Financial Planning, Ben has an in-depth understanding of both industries and how they impact on your financial situation.  To complement these qualifications, Ben has completed a Certificate IV in Financial Services and is a qualified Justice of the Peace (JP).

"I’m immensely passionate about investing and in particular, compounding.  It’s amazing to see the life changing benefits one can achieve as a result of a good financial strategy, an extended period of time and compounding."

Ben takes pride in being an active member in his local community, having previously been a board member of the Teneriffe Festival Incorporated, New Farm and Districts Historical Association as well as Tattersall’s Club Shooters.

Ben's interests include clay pigeon shooting, camping and reading historic literature.

Financial Adviser

BENJAMIN WIDDUP

Ben is a Financial Adviser at EGU Wealth Management and works closely with Ben Wieland.

Ben has completed a Bachelor of Commerce double major degree in Accounting and Financial Planning.  He is dedicated to using his graduate skills and experience to do meaningful work that his family and community can be proud of, adding real value to the lives around him.

Ben conducts himself with great integrity and is devoted to ensuring such values shine through to his professional work.

"I'm excited about financial planning because it allows me to improve one's quality of life, improve financial well-being and make a meaningful difference that will last a lifetime."

Previously, Ben was a member of the Griffith University Association of Commerce (GUAC) and was Griffith University’s first financial planning student to write for Griffith’s newsletter.

Ben's interests include reading, cooking and exercising.

Administration Officer

ROBYN WIELAND

Robyn is the Administration Officer at EGU.  

Her role is to facilitate the efficient flow of documents, data and other information between EGU and its clients.  Robyn also liaises with external organisations such as the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), solicitors and financiers. 

"Efficient admin ensures that the process of you doing business with EGU is conducted in the most timely manner possible."

Prior to having two children (Corinne and Ben), Robyn worked at the National Australia Bank (NAB) in Queen Street, Brisbane.  She also worked as a receptionist at the Sunshine Coast private school, St John's College for 17 years. 

Robyn’s interests include reading and spending time with family and friends.  She also enjoys walking on the boardwalk along the Brisbane River.

Insurance Specialist and Compliance Officer

SUSAN WIELAND

Susan is the EGU Compliance Officer who strives for perfection in our policies and procedures. 

Her role is to ensure our business practices comply with all applicable legislation and regulations, to help us to maintain the highest professional standards.  She also manages our risk and compliance governance tools.

Susan has completed a Bachelor of Marine Science and Management degree and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Science (Mathematics and Statistics).

Susan's interests are travelling and scuba diving and she has dived at various locations around the world including the Amalfi Coast, the SS President Coolidge in Vanuatu, and the Galapagos Islands.
